David LaChapelle (* 11. März 1963 oder 1969 in Connecticut) ist ein US-amerikanischer Fotograf und Regisseur.Er studierte an der Art Student's League und der School Of Visual Arts. Seine erste Anstellung wurde ihm von Andy Warhol verschafft, für dessen Zeitschrift Interview-Magazine er in den 80er Jahren als Fotograf arbeitete.LaChapelle gewann zahlreiche Auszeichnungen für seine Arbeit: 12 Annual MVPA Award für „Video des Jahres“, MTV Europe Music Award für „Bestes Video“, Art Director’s Club Award für „Bestes Buch-Design“.

Biografia LaChapelle ha frequentato la "North Carolina School of the Arts" e successivamente la "School of the Arts" di New York. Dopo un rapido passaggio nei marines, un matrimonio a Londra (con una donna), David ritorna a New York confermandosi come uno dei più grandi fotografi del secolo. Fu Andy Warhol ad offrire a LaChapelle il suo primo incarico professionale fotografico per la rivista Interview magazine. Inoltre lavora per copertine e servizi fotografici di riviste, fra cui Vanity Fair, Flaunt, i-D, The Face, Arena e Rolling Stone. Il primo libro fotografico, dal titolo LaChapelle Land, permise al fotografo di far conoscere il suo stile: fotografie dai colori molto accesi, a volte oniriche, a volte bizzarre. Il successivo Hotel LaChapelle (uno dei libri fotografici più venduti di tutti i tempi) contiene svariati scatti di celebrità. Sia Artists and Prostitutes (in tiratura limitata, venduto a 1500 dollari il pezzo, con l'autografo dell'artista) che Heaven to Hell sono stati molto apprezzati dal pubblico. Le sue foto sono descritte come barocche, perfino eccessive, caratterizzate dalla solita spiccata ironia.
