David H. Levy (born May 22, 1948) is a Canadian astronomer and science writer most famous for his co-discovery in 1993 of Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9, which collided with the planet Jupiter in 1994.

David H. Levy
David H. Levy, född 22 maj 1948 i Montreal, är en kanadensisk astronom. Han är mest känd för att ha upptäckt kometen Shoemaker-Levy 9 som i juli 1994 kraschade in i Jupiter. Han var den förste att upptäcka en trojansk asteroid till Mars 1990, med namnet: 5261 Eureka.

David Levy
David H. Levy (ur. w 1948 r. w Montrealu) jest kanadyjskim astronomem-amatorem i popularyzatorem nauki, najbardziej znanym ze współodkrycia komety Shoemaker-Levy 9, która w 1994 r. zderzyła się z Jowiszem.

Studiował literaturę angielską na uniwersytetach w Wolfville i Kingston. Odkrył, samodzielnie bądź wraz z Eugene lub Carolyn Shoemaker, 22 komet i 41 planetoid. Najnowszym jego "znaleziskiem" jest kometa C/2006 T1 Levy (zaobserwowana 2 października 2006 r. za pomocą 36 cm teleskopu, wyposażonego w kamerę CCD). Napisał ponad 30 książek o tematyce astronomicznej i okołonaukowej, począwszy od wskazówek dla obserwatorów (Niebo. Poradnik użytkownika, wyd. Prószyński i S-ka Warszawa 1996), po połączenie naukowego i poetyckiego postrzegania nocnego nieba w More Things in Heaven and Earth (nie wydana w Polsce).
