Daemon (computer software)

In Unix and other computer multitasking operating systems, a daemon (IPA pronunciation: or ) is a computer program that runs in the background, rather than under the direct control of a user; they are usually initiated as processes. Typically daemons have names that end with the letter "d" (for example, syslogd, the daemon that handles the system log, or sshd, which handles the incoming SSH connections).

Als Daemon bzw. Dämon (auch häufig in der Schreibweise Demon) bezeichnet man unter Unix und seinen Derivaten ein Programm, das im Hintergrund abläuft und bestimmte Dienste zur Verfügung stellt. Benutzerinteraktionen finden hierbei nur auf indirektem Weg statt, zum Beispiel über Signale oder Pipes. Der Begriff Daemon wird auch als Abkürzung von disk and execution monitor interpretiert, was jedoch ein Backronym ist.

Daemon – w wielozadaniowych (najczęściej uniksopodobnych) systemach operacyjnych proces, który pracuje w tle bez konieczności interakcji z użytkownikiem.Większość daemonów to programy usługowe, które komunikują się za pomocą połączeń sieciowych (co jest zazwyczaj jedyną formą kontroli). Typowy daemon po uruchomieniu przekierowuje standardowe strumienie, co czyni go niezależnym od terminala kontrolującego (controlling terminal). Wówczas wszelkie komunikaty informacyjne mogą być zapisywane w osobnych plikach (logach).

Di solito i demoni hanno nomi che finiscono per "d": per esempio, syslogd è il demone che gestisce i log di sistema.
