Desktop Publishing (DTP, englisch für Publizieren vom Schreibtisch aus) ist das rechnergestützte Setzen hochwertiger Dokumente, die aus Texten und Bildern bestehen und später als Publikationen, wie zum Beispiel Broschüren, Magazine, Bücher oder Kataloge ihre Verwendung finden. Im Mittelpunkt des DTP steht ein Desktop-Computer, Software für die Erstellung des Layouts und ein Drucker zur Ausgabe.

DTP (ang. Desktop Publishing – publikowanie zza biurka) – termin oznaczający pierwotnie ogół czynności związanych z przygotowaniem na komputerze materiałów, które będą później powielone metodami poligraficznymi. Krócej mówiąc, termin ten oznaczał komputerowe przygotowanie do druku. W tym znaczeniu termin ten dotyczy nie tylko fazy projektowej, czyli tworzenia w programach komputerowych obrazu (oraz kształtu) stron publikacji, ale także zarządzania pracą grupową, a nawet odnosi się do komputerowego sterowania urządzeniami wykorzystywanymi w tym procesie, a więc np. naświetlarkami czy maszynami drukarskimi.Dawniej przygotowanie do druku nazywano "przygotowalnią" lub "procesami przygotowawczymi" (kierunek w szkole poligraficznej nosi tę nazwę do dziś) i zasadniczo obejmowała skład ręczny (wykonywany w zecerni) i montaż (w montażowni), zakończony przygotowaniem materiałów dla drukarni w naświetlarni

Il desktop publishing (DTP) è l'insieme delle procedure di creazione, impaginazione e produzione di materiale stampato dedicato alla produzione editoriale (come libri, giornali, riviste o depliant), usando un personal computer. Il termine (letteralmente "editoria da scrivania", sostituibile altrimenti con editoria individuale) si riferisce al paragone con i sistemi tradizionali di preparazione della stampa, che avevano bisogno di diverse fasi fotografiche e meccaniche successive. Dall'inizio degli anni novanta il DTP ha sostituito in maniera pressoché totale le tecnologie precedenti, dando il via alla prima profonda rivoluzione della tipografia, a più di cinque secoli dalla prima stampa di Gutenberg.
