DOS

DOS (from Disk Operating System) commonly refers to the family of closely related operating systems which dominated the IBM PC compatible market between 1981 and 1995 (or until about 2000, if Windows 9x systems are included): DR-DOS, FreeDOS, MS-DOS, Novell-DOS, OpenDOS, PC-DOS, PTS-DOS, ROM-DOS and several others. They are single user, single task systems. MS-DOS from Microsoft was the most widely used. These operating systems ran on IBM PC type hardware using the Intel x86 CPUs or their compatible cousins from other makers. MS-DOS, inspired by CP/M, is still common today and was the foundation for many of Microsoft's operating systems (from Windows 1.0 through Windows Me). MS-DOS was later used as the foundation for their operating systems.

A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to, motives for and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally comprises the concerted, malevolent efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.

On appelle DOS (disk operating system) le système d'exploitation PC-DOS développé par Microsoft pour l'IBM PC, ainsi que la variante MS-DOS vendue par Microsoft pour les compatibles PC, le clone concurrent DR-DOS de Digital Research et FreeDOS. Jusqu'au début des années 1990, DOS était le système le plus utilisé sur compatible PC. Ce système en ligne de commande était rudimentaire : pas de multitâche, pas de mémoire virtuelle, gestion du seul mode segmenté 16 bits du microprocesseur x86.

Als Disk Operating System [] (kurz DOS) werden kleine und einfache Betriebssysteme für Computer bezeichnet, deren Hauptaufgabe die Verwaltung von magnetischen Speichermedien wie Disketten und Festplatten ist. Andere Funktionen des Rechners, wie zum Beispiel Grafik, Ton, Druckersteuerung, Netzwerkfunktionalität, Speicherverwaltung, Verwaltung mehrerer Benutzer etc. werden nicht oder nur rudimentär von DOS-Betriebssystemen übernommen. Diese Zusatzaufgaben müssen stattdessen durch direkten Zugriff der Anwendungsprogramme auf die Hardware  realisiert werden.

DOS (ang. Disk Operating System), dyskowy system operacyjny – rodzina systemów operacyjnych, często utożsamiana z najstarszym systemem operacyjnym komputerów IBM-PC i zgodnych, który powstał ok. 1980 roku. Protoplastą DOS był system klasy CP/M.System DOS nadal jest używany na komputerach PC niewymagających zaawansowanych rozwiązań informatycznych, np. w księgowości. System pracuje w trybie tekstowym, ale o ile karta graficzna na to pozwala, mogą być na nim uruchamiane programy pracujące w trybie graficznym. Istnieją także nakładki graficzne na DOS, np. dla MS-DOS są to DOSShell (od wersji 5.0) i OpenGEM; taką nakładką na DOS dającą środowisko graficzne były pierwsze wersje Microsoft Windows.

DoS, czyli Denial of Service (ang. odmowa usługi) - atak na system komputerowy lub usługę sieciową w celu uniemożliwienia działania poprzez zajęcie wszystkich wolnych zasobów.Atak polega zwykle na przeciążeniu aplikacji serwującej określone dane czy obsługującej danych klientów (np. wyczerpanie limitu wolnych gniazd dla serwerów FTP czy WWW), zapełnienie całego systemu plików tak, by dogrywanie kolejnych informacji nie było możliwe (w szczególności serwery FTP), czy po prostu wykorzystanie błędu powodującego załamanie się pracy aplikacji.

DoS, scritto con la maiuscola al primo e terzo posto, è la sigla di denial of service, letteralmente negazione del servizio. In questo tipo di attacco si cerca di portare il funzionamento di un sistema informatico che fornisce un servizio, ad esempio un sito web, al limite delle prestazioni, lavorando su uno dei parametri d'ingresso, fino a renderlo non più in grado di erogare il servizio.
