DJ Hollywood

DJ Hollywood (born December 10, 1954) is an American old school hip hop DJ and rapper. According to Kurtis Blow, Hollywood was the first rapper in the hip-hop style.DJ Hollywood first came to prominence just as disco was becoming popular, and he soon became one of the most in-demand performers of the nascent hip hop culture. Most of his body of musical work was live, not recorded, although he did release a single "Shock Shock The House" in 1980 on CBS Records.

DJ Hollywood (* 10. Dezember 1954) ist ein Hip-Hop-DJ und MC und einer der Pioniere des Genres. Er oder sein ehemaliger Partner Lovebug Starski haben den Ausdruck Hip Hop geprägt.Hollywood begann ab 1971 in Harlem als DJ zu arbeiten. Unter anderem legt er dort im Apollo Theater auf. Er errang ersten Ruhm, als der Disco-Stil erfolgreich wurde. Hollywood war in den 1970ern einer der populärsten Performer des Old School Hip Hops. Unter anderem war er einer der ersten, die das Beatjuggling als Stilmittel etablierten.Er hatte eine eigene Radioshow und rappte dort über die Break-parts oder intros der Stücke, die er auflegte (vornehmlich Disco und Funk). Er gilt somit wie auch King Trim the 3rd zu den ersten öffentlich in Erscheinung getretenen Rappern. Sein Ruf ist allerdings etwas in Vergessenheit geraten, da er wahrscheinlich zu früh war und die Explosion des Stils erst nach seiner besten Zeit stattfand. Laut Grandmaster Flash war er jedoch one of the greatest solo rappers that ever there was.
