DISS

DISS (Disability Information Services) is part of the Queen Elizabeth's Foundation for Disabled People (QEF), a charitable organisation based in Leatherhead, Surrey, England. The organisation has experience in producing databases of information relevant to the needs of disabled people, their families and carers, and has been successful in this field since the late 1980s.

This article is about the English town. 'Diss' may also be shorthand for dissertation. Diss is a town (population 6742) in Norfolk, England. It lies in the valley of the River Waveney, around a mere (lake) which covers 6 acres (24,000 m²) and is up to 18 feet (5 m) deep (although there is another 51 feet (16 m) of mud, making it one of the deepest natural inland lakes in England). The town may take its name from the Saxon term for lake, or an old Viking word meaning 'Village of The Dancing Horse'.

Dís is een fictief personage dat voorkomt in de werken van J.R.R. Tolkien.Over de vrouwen van Dwergen is weinig bekend. Dit komt doordat de Dwergen uitzonderlijk jaloers zijn op hun vrouwen en hun bestaan geheimhouden. Dwergenvrouwen lijken met hun baarden ook zodanig op de mannelijke Dwergen dat het moeilijk is om ze te onderscheiden. De enige Dwergenvrouw die in de nu nog bestaande annalen beschreven wordt is Dís, de zuster van Thorin Eikenschild en de moeder van Fili en Kili.

En el género del hip hop, una 'diss song' es una canción creada con el único propósito de asaltar verbalmente e insultar a una persona o a un grupo de gente. Las diss songs son la mayoría de las veces producto de rivalidades y disputas entre dos o más artistas de rap (como por ejemplo Jay-Z y Nas, Ja Rule y 50 Cent, etc.). Uno de los ejemplos de este particular tipo de canción es "The Bridge is Over" de Boogie Down Productions.
