Cyrene, Libya
Cyrene (Greek: , Kyrene) was an ancient Greek colony and then a Roman city in present-day Shahhat, Libya, the oldest and most important of the five Greek cities in the region. It gave eastern Libya the classical name Cyrenaica that it has retained to modern times.

Kyrene
Kyrene, eine altgriechische Stadt im heutigen Libyen, war die älteste und bedeutendste der fünf griechischen Städte der Region und gab Ostlibyen den klassischen Namen Kyrenaika, den es bis heute behalten hat. Sie liegt in einer Senke im Hochland Dschebel Akhdar. Seit 1982 steht Kyrene auf der Liste des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.

Cyrène
Cyrène, l'ancienne ville grecque (en actuelle Libye), est la plus ancienne et la plus importante des cinq colonies grecques dans la région et lui donne son nom de Cyrénaïque, qui est encore utilisé aujourd'hui. Ancien évêché, elle se situe dans la vallée de Djebel Akhdar.

Kyrene eller Cyrene var en forntida stad i Nordafrika i nuvarande Libyen. Under romersk tid var den huvudstad i provinsen Cyrenaica.

Cyrena
Cyrena, gr. Kyrene, starożytne miasto położone w północnej Libii. Niedaleko miasta znajdował się port Apollonia, początkowo również samodzielne miasto, od końca VII wieku p.n.e. traktowane jako port Cyreny.

Cyrena została założona między rokiem 675 a 650 p.n.e. (wiele źródeł podaje rok 630 p.n.e.) przez Dorów z Santorynu, a następnie sama była metropolią dla wielu kolonii. Była największym i najważniejszym z greckich pentapolis w północnej Afryce. Początkowo panowali tu królowie z rodu Battiadów, około roku 450 p.n.e. zaprowadzono ustrój republikański. Szczegóły opisujące założenie miasta podaje Herodot w IV księdze swych Historii. Po śmierci Aleksandra Wielkiego Cyrena znalazła się w rękach dynastii Ptolemeuszy, a następnie przeszła w ręce Rzymian i została stolicą prowincji Cyrenajka obejmującej również Kretę.
