Cuzco

Cusco (also spelled Cuzco, and in the native Quechua language as Qusqu ) is a city in southeastern Peru, near the Urubamba Valley (Sacred Valley) of the Andes mountain range. It is the capital of the Cusco Region as well as the Cusco Province. The city has a population of about 300,000, triple the population it contained just 20 years ago. The altitude of the city, located on the eastern end of the Knot of Cusco, is around 3,500 m (11,500 feet). The historic capital of the sun-worshiping Inca empire, it was found in 2006 to be the spot on Earth with the highest ultraviolet light level.

Cusco (auch Cuzco, auf Quechua Qusqu oder Qosqo) ist die Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz im Zentrum des peruanischen Andenhochlandes. Sie liegt in 3.416 m Höhe und hat etwa 320.000 Einwohner. Sie ist Sitz eines  Erzbischofs und einer Universität. Die wechselvolle Geschichte als Hauptstadt des Inkareiches, die Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Umgebung und die Landschaft inmitten der Anden machen sie zum Anziehungspunkt vieler Touristen. Als Ausgangspunkt zu der Inkastadt Machu Picchu ist sie weltbekannt geworden.

Cuzco – miasto położone w południowej części Peru na wysokości 3326 m n.p.m. Obecnie stolica departamentu Cuzco, liczba mieszkańców w 1990 r. wynosiła 275 tys. Miasto zostało założone przez pierwszego władcę Inków Manco Capaca w XII wieku, zostało zdobyte w 1533 r przez oddziały Francisco Pizarro. Podczas powstania Manco Inki w 1536 r. miasto zostało spalone. Hiszpanie w tym samym miejscu zbudowali swoje miasto. Kilkakrotnie nawiedzane przez silne trzęsienia ziemi (w 1650, 1950 i 1986 r.). W czasach Imperium Inków w Cuzco znajdowała się stolica państwa. Nazwa Cuzco w języku keczua oznacza pępek świata. Największy rozkwit miał miejsce w drugiej połowie XV wieku, za panowania Pachacutiego. Z czasów inkaskich zachowały się pozostałości zabudowań.

Cusco o Cuzco è una città, situata a 3399 m s.l.m., del Perù, capoluogo della regione omonima. È localizzata nella sierra sud del paese. Attualmente conta circa 300.000 abitanti. Fu dichiarata patrimonio dell'umanità nel 1983 dall'UNESCO. Fu la capitale dell'Impero Inca ed è considerata la capitale storica del Perù.
