Coventry
Coventry is a
metropolitan borough in the
West Midlands of
England. With a population of 303,475 at the
2001 Census (306,000 est. 2007), Coventry is the ninth largest city in England and the eleventh largest in the
United Kingdom. It is also the second largest city after
Birmingham in the English Midlands by population. Coventry is situated 95 miles (153 km) northwest of London and 19 miles (30 km) east of Birmingham, and is notable for being further from the coast than any other British city. Although harbouring a population of almost a third-of-a-million inhabitants, Coventry is not amongst the
English Core Cities Group due to its proximity to
Birmingham.

Birmingham. Seconde ville du comté de
Warwickshire, sa population est estimée à habitants (2002). Depuis
1345, Coventry possède officiellement le
statut de cité. Elle a longtemps été l'un des plus importants centres industriels du pays avec une économie dynamique. Pour cette raison, dans le cadre de sa guerre psychologique contre l'Angleterre, le régime nazi décide d'y mener l'un des pires raids aériens de la deuxième guerre mondiale.

englische Industriestadt mit ca. 300.000 Einwohnern in den
West Midlands. Coventry ist damit die achtgrößte Stadt Englands und die elftgrößte Stadt des Vereinigten Königreichs. Die Stadt befindet sich 153 Kilometer nordwestlich von
London und 39 Kilometer östlich von
Birmingham. Eine besondere Eigenschaft von Coventry ist, dass sie weiter als jede andere britische Stadt von der Küste entfernt ist.
