Convert to Judaism

Conversion to Judaism (Hebrew גיור, giur, "conversion") is the religious conversion of a previously non-Jewish person to the Jewish religion and to the Jewish people. The procedure for conversion depends on the sponsoring denomination, and hinges on meeting the ritual and substantive requirements for such conversion. A convert to Judaism is referred to as a ger tzedek (Hebrew: "righteous proselyte" or "proselyte [of] righteousness") or simply ger ("stranger" or "proselyte"). In Russian the terms Gery and Gerami are used for Subbotniks who have adopted all aspects of Judaism.

La conversion au judaïsme représente l'adoption par un Gentil des rites et croyances juives, et l'abandon de ses propres usages religieux. Elle implique aussi, au-delà de la religion, le fait de se considérer comme partie intégrante du peuple juif.

Гиюр  — обращение нееврея в иудаизм, а также связанный с этим обряд.Первыми примерами прозелитов можно считать Иофора (Итро) — тестя Моисея и Руфь (Рут). Моисеем, а также в Талмуде и более поздних кодексах формализуется процедура прозелитизма. Кандидат обязан принять на себя все заповеди Торы перед судом из трёх судей. Если кандидат — мужчина, ему делается обрезание, после выздоровления — окунание в микве завершает процедуру. Женщина только окунается в микве. В древнее время кандидат также приносил жертву в Иерусалимский храм. Если кандидат уже обрезан — производят заменяющий ритуал — выдавливание капли крови.
