Constitution of Ireland
The Constitution of Ireland is the founding legal document of the state known today both as Ireland and as the Republic of Ireland. The constitution falls broadly within the liberal democratic tradition. It establishes an independent state based on a system of representative democracy, and guarantees certain fundamental rights. The constitution was adopted in 1937 by referendum, and may only be amended in the same manner.
