Porto , also known as Oporto in English, is the second largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, and one of the major urban areas in Southern Europe. Its administrative limits (an area of 41.66 km²/16 sq.mi) include a population of 237,584 (2011) inhabitants distributed within 15 civil parishes. The urbanized area of Porto, which extends beyond the administrative limits of the city, has a population of 1.3 million (2011) in an area of , making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. The Porto Metropolitan Area includes approximately 1.7 million people, and is recognized as a Gamma-level global city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Study Group, being one of the four cities in the peninsula with global city status (the others being Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon).

Porto (port. Aussprache []) ist die Hauptstadt des gleichnamigen Distriktes in Portugal und liegt am Douro vor dessen Mündung in den Atlantischen Ozean. Mit circa 216.000 Einwohnern (port. portuenses; dt. Portuenser genannt) ist sie nach Lissabon zweitgrößte Stadt des Landes. Der rund 1,26 Millionen Einwohner zählende Ballungsraum Grande Porto rangiert landesweit ebenfalls an zweiter Stelle. Bis weit in das 20. Jahrhundert hinein wurde die Stadt auf Deutsch nicht selten Oporto genannt. Das Vorgestellte O ist der männliche bestimmte Artikel der portugiesischen Sprache. Oporto bedeutet also „Der Hafen“

Porto est une ville du Portugal de (c.) 240,000 (est.) habitants et environ 2.000.000 (est.) dans le Grand Porto (2008), ce qui en fait la seconde du pays après Lisbonne. Les deux villes, ont souvent rivalisé par le passé. Porto, par son histoire de négoce du vin avec le Royaume-Uni, semble avoir été influencée par celui-ci et par une activité commerciale importante. Un adage évoque le caractère des différentes villes portugaises : Lisbonne s'amuse, Coimbra chante, Braga prie et Porto travaille.

Porto (znane także jako Oporto, gdzie litera O występuje w roli rodzajnika męskiego) – miasto w Portugalii, 263 tys. mieszkańców (zespół miejski 2 200 000), drugie co do wielkości w państwie. Leży u ujścia rzeki Douro (hisz. Duero), nad Oceanem Atlantyckim, w północnej Portugalii, jest głównym miastem regionu Wielkie Porto.

Oporto (in portoghese Porto, ), è la seconda città del Portogallo, sede di distretto nel nord del paese. Ha una popolazione di 263.000 abitanti, 1.551.950 se si considera l'area metropolitana. La città si trova sulla riva settentrionale del fiume Douro, poco lontano dall'Oceano Atlantico. La festa cittadina è il 24 giugno, giorno di San Giovanni Battista. La città è amministrata dal sindaco Rui Rio, del Partido Social Democrata (partito social democratico).
