Congestión

Congestion is a state of excessive accumulation or overfilling or overcrowding. This general definition is broadly correct across all uses of the word. However in specific contexts the word has a more precise definition and usage. Congestion is the worst drawback of networks.In telecommunication, the term has the following meanings:In a communications switch, a state or condition that occurs when more subscribers attempt simultaneously to access the switch than it is able to handle, even if unsaturated. In a saturated communications system, the condition that occurs when an additional demand for service occurs.Network congestion.In medicine and pathology the term is used to describe excessive accumulation of blood or other fluid in a particular part of the body, such as nasal congestion.See the traffic congestion article for a discussion of congestion in transportation.In electric power transmission it means the inability to supply an area with the cheapest available generation due to a binding constraint on the point to point transmission route. Some plant or equipment could be causing the constraint due to thermal overload or security limits being potentially breached.

Ein Stau (v. niederdt.: stouwen = stehen machen, stellen) bezeichnet die Störung eines Flusses über einen Transportweg oder Kanal. Mögliche Störungen sind z.B. Engstellen oder ein Hindernis; von Stau spricht man allgemein, sobald der Fluss erheblich behindert ist, beziehungsweise vollständig zum Erliegen kommt. Die Eigenschaften des Transportweges, beziehungsweise Kanals wie Kapazität und Ausweichmöglichkeiten einerseits, und die Eigenschaften des Transportgutes andererseits, sind dabei von großer Bedeutung.

Kongestia (ang. congestion) - zatłoczenie na szlakach komunikacyjnych, zator, popularnie korek. Kongestia występuje praktycznie w każdej gałęzi transportu, a także w telekomunikacji. Najczęściej pojawia się w momentach szczytu przewozowego, takich jak godziny szczytu w miastach czy okresowe zwiększenie przewozów związanych z wyjazdami wakacyjnymi. W transporcie ładunków kongestia występuje w przypadku towarów występujących sezonowo (np. płody rolne). Istotnym miejscem powstawania kongestii są wąskie gardła, czyli punkty o zmniejszonej przepustowości, np. most, tunel, remontowany odcinek itp.

In het wegverkeer spreken we van een file.In een datacommunicatienetwerk dat gebruik maakt van packet-switching, zoals het Internet, kan ook congestie optreden.In de bloedsomloop, wanneer bloed zich ophoopt in een orgaan, spreken we ook van congestie.
