Computer graphics is often differentiated from the field of visualization, although the two have many similarities.

It has published the yearly proceedings of the annual SIGGRAPH conferences, as well as a variety of papers on a quarterly basis. Since 2003, all printed materials from the annual conference are included in an issue of ACM Transactions on Graphics (TOG).

Die Computergrafik ist ein Teilbereich der Informatik, der sich mit der künstlichen Erzeugung von Bildern mit Hilfe von Computern beschäftigt. Mit derartigen Verfahren erzeugte Bilder nennt man auch Computergrafiken. Verwandte, aber abgegrenzte Fachrichtungen sind Bildverarbeitung, Maschinelles Sehen und Mensch-Maschine-Kommunikation. Erstere beiden bilden zusammen mit der Computergrafik und der Informationsvisualisierung die Kernelemente der Computervisualistik.

La computer grafica, o computer graphics, o grafica computerizzata, spesso indicata con l'acronimo CG o CGI (quest'ultimo dal sinonimo inglese Computer Generated Imagery, in italiano "immagini generate al computer"), è la generazione e manipolazione di immagini per mezzo del computer.
