Commodore 64

The Commodore 64 is the best-selling single personal computer model of all time. A pre-production Commodore 64 was first introduced at the winter Consumer Electronics Show in January 1982 by the manufacturer, Commodore International. It was later released in August 1982 at a price of US$595. The Commodore 64 is commonly referred to as the C64 (sometimes written C= 64 to mimic the Commodore company logo) and occasionally known as CBM 64 (Commodore Business Machines Model number 64), or VIC-64. It has also been affectionately nicknamed the "breadbox" and "bullnose" due to its shape.

Der Commodore 64 (kurz: C64, umgangssprachlich auch 64er) ist ein 8-Bit-Heimcomputer mit 64 KiB Arbeitsspeicher.Äußerst populär war der von Commodore gebaute C64 Mitte bis Ende der 1980er Jahre sowohl als Spielkonsole als auch zur Softwareentwicklung. Er gilt mit über 17 Mio. verkauften Geräten als der meistverkaufte Heimcomputer weltweit und erfreut sich auch heute noch großer Beliebtheit. Der C64 ermöglichte mit seiner umfangreichen Hardwareausstattung zu einem erschwinglichen Preis einer ganzen Generation von Jugendlichen in den 1980er Jahren erstmals einen Zugang zu einem für diese Zeit leistungsstarken Computer.

Il Commodore 64 (C64, C=64, CBM 64, 64) è stato un home computer molto popolare negli anni ottanta. Il nome adottato dalla casa costruttrice, la Commodore Business Machine fu inizialmente Vic-30, ma prima della distribuzione venne cambiato in Commodore 64. Il Commodore 64 risulta essere il modello di computer più venduto al mondo, record che si trova anche nel Guinness dei primati: nel 1986 furono venduti più di 10 milioni di esemplari in tutto il mondo. Fu commercializzato fino al 1993, quando le unità vendute furono appena 700 mila. In totale, ne sono stati venduti nel mondo oltre 17 milioni di esemplari: record che, con tutta probabilità non verrà mai più superato (la natura degli attuali computer, assemblati diversamente a seconda delle esigenze dell'utente, rendono praticamente impossibile ripetere un'impresa simile).
