Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA)
A digital technology that uses a low-power signal "spread" across a wide band-width. With CDMA a phone call is assigned a code instead of a certain frequency. Using the identifying code and a low power signal, a large number of callers can use the same group of channels. Some estimates indicate CDMA's capacity increase over analog may be as much as 20 to 1. The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has awarded CDMA interim standard approval (IS-95).
