Clergy is a generic term used to refer to the formal religious leadership within some religions. A clergyman, clergywoman, clergyperson, churchman or cleric is a member of the clergy, especially one who is a priest, preacher, pastor, or other religious professional. Depending on the religion, clergy usually take care of the ritual aspects of the religious life, teach or otherwise help in spreading the religion's doctrine and practices.

En un sentido extenso, clérigo es sinónimo del término eclesiástico (no confundir con el Eclesiástico, un libro de la Biblia) y puede hacer referencia, en el cristianismo, tanto a un miembro del clero regular (monjes y frailes) como del clero secular (sacerdotes). En otras religiones, el término se aplica con distinta amplitud.
