Clemence Dane is the pseudonym of Winifred Ashton (1888–1965), an English novelist and playwright. For more than 50 years she produced romances and melodramas. Many of her plays, novels, radio plays, and detective stories are centred around the world of the theatre, with which she had a life-long interest.
