A clade is a group consisting of a species (extinct or extant) and all its descendants. In the terms of biological systematics, a clade is a single "branch" on the "tree of life". The idea that such a "natural group" of organisms should be grouped together and given a taxonomic name is central to biological classification. In cladistics (which takes its name from the term), clades are the only acceptable units.

En cladistique, un clade (du grec clados, qui signifie « branche ») est une partie d'un cladogramme, une branche contenant deux éléments plus proches entre eux qu'avec n'importe quel autre élément. Dans la classification des êtres vivants, un clade peut correspondre à un taxon ; celui-ci sera alors un taxon monophylétique ou holophylétique (regroupant tous les descendants d'un même ancêtre). Une classification phylogénétique, par principe, ne doit comprendre que des clades (des taxons monophylétiques), à l'exclusion de grades évolutifs paraphylétiques.

Klad (av grekiska κλάδος klados, som betyder gren) är en term inom kladistiken.

Klad (z gr. ὁ κλάδος – gałąź) – w  kladystyce, grupa organizmów mających wspólnego przodka, obejmująca wszystkie wywodzące się z niego grupy potomne (linie rozwojowe). W ujęciu ortodoksyjnym klady rozdzielają się dychotomicznie, tworząc drzewo dychotomiczne pokrewieństw.

Un clade è definito come un gruppo tassonomico di  organismi  costituito da un antenato singolo comune e tutti i discendenti comuni a quell'antenato. Qualsiasi gruppo che corrisponde alla definizione viene considerato monofiletico e può essere rappresentato sia da un'analisi filogenetica, o da un cladogramma.
