City of London
The City of London is an area in central London, England. In the medieval period it constituted most of London, but the conurbation has grown far beyond it. As the City’s boundaries have remained almost unchanged since the Middle Ages, it is now only a tiny part of the metropolis, though it remains a notable part of central London, holds city status in its own right, and is a separate ceremonial county.

City of London
Die City of London ist das historische und wirtschaftliche Zentrum von Greater London. Sie wird oft einfach als The City oder Square Mile (Quadratmeile, entsprechend ihrer Flächenausdehnung) bezeichnet. Obwohl die City während Jahrhunderten gleichbedeutend mit London war, wird der Stadtname nun für das gesamte überbaute Gebiet verwendet. Die City of London ist eine zeremonielle Grafschaft.

Cité de Londres
La Cité de Londres ou City est la circonscription centrale du Grand Londres, c'est le plus ancien quartier de Londres. Elle possède le statut de Cité. La cité située sur la rive nord de la Tamise couvre seulement un mille carré (2,5 km²). C'est aujourd'hui un grand centre financier mondial. Elle compte aujourd'hui moins de habitants (estimation de 2004), mais près de personnes y travaillent.

City of London
City of London zw. czasem Square Mile (Mila Kwadratowa - taką powierzchnię w przybliżeniu zajmuje City) - najstarsza dzielnica Londynu, w której obecnie skupia się większość działalności handlowo-bankowo-ubezpieczeniowej Wielkiej Brytanii.
Jedno z najstarszych siedlisk ludzkich w Anglii. W 54 roku Rzymianie założyli tutaj osadę kupiecką, która stała sie później stolicą rzymskiej prowincji - Britanii. Do dzisiaj można oglądać wiele pozostałości po tej osadzie (mury, amfiteatr, ceramika, świątynia Mitry) W XVIII i XIX wieku City of London było światowym centrum handlu międzynarodowego i usług bankowych. W początkach XX wieku zostało jednak zdetronizowane przez Nowy Jork. Obecnie jednak dzięki reformom premier Margaret Thatcher w latach osiemdziesiątych (tzw. Big Bang) City wróciło na pierwszą pozycję. Dzisiaj Londyn znowu ma przewagę nad Nowym Jorkiem, i burmistrz Nowego Jorku Michael Bloomberg niedawno rozpoczął działania, których celem jest odzyskanie pierwszego miejsca. Przewaga City to, w opinii wielu ekspertów, liberalny i jednocześnie bardzo efektywny system nadzoru finansowego (tzw. Principles based regulation), skupienie największej grupy ekspertów finansowych, nieporównywalna dynamika rynku i angielski system prawa (Common Law), który jest używany w największych transakcjach międzynarodowych.
