Chuck Berry

Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry (born 18 October  1926, St. Louis, Missouri) is an iconic and influential American guitarist, singer and songwriter. Chuck Berry is an influential figure and one of the pioneers of rock & roll music. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's website, "While no individual can be said to have invented rock and roll, Chuck Berry comes the closest of any single figure to being the one who put all the essential pieces together." Cub Koda wrote, "Of all the early breakthrough rock & roll artists, none is more important to the development of the music than Chuck Berry. He is its greatest songwriter, the main shaper of its instrumental voice, one of its greatest guitarists, and one of its greatest performers."  John Lennon was more succinct: "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'."

Chuck Berry, de son vrai nom Charles Edward Anderson Berry, (né à Saint Louis, Missouri le ) est un guitariste, chanteur et compositeur américain. Il fait partie des artistes les plus importants du rock and roll. Il a influencé de nombreux autres artistes, et son répertoire a été très souvent repris (dont ses titres les plus célèbres, Johnny B. Goode et Roll over Beethoven). En 2003, Rolling Stone l'a classé 6ème meilleur guitariste de tous les temps.

Chuck Berry (* 18. Oktober 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri; eigentlich Charles Edward Anderson Berry) ist ein US-amerikanischer Sänger, Gitarrist, Komponist und der Pionier des Rock ’n’ Roll. Berry wurde 1985 in die Blues Hall of Fame aufgenommen und war 1986 das erste Mitglied der Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Berrys Vorbilder waren Nat King Cole, Louis Jordan und Muddy Waters. Chuck Berry ist der Erfinder des Duckwalk.

Jest powszechnie uważany za jednego z najwybitniejszych pionierów rock and rolla. W 2003 pojawił się na 6. miejscu listy 100 największych gitarzystów wszech czasów magazynu "Rolling Stone".

A detta di molti Chuck Berry è colui che ha inventato il rock; ma anche se questo non fosse vero, resta il dato di fatto che fu lui a inventare la scala pentatonica "double-step", su cui si fonda tutta la tecnica chitarristica rock; inoltre, le sue canzoni furono le prime ad avere la chitarra come strumento principale. Berry fu anche il primo a inserire nei suoi testi tematiche riguardanti gli adolescenti e la rivolta che stava interessando loro in quegli anni, quando i giovani cominciarono a ribellarsi agli ideali degli adulti quali la famiglia, il lavoro, le false moralità; tutto questo trattato da Berry in modo semplice ed ironico. Per tantissimi chitarristi (dal pop al metal) è stato una grande fonte di ispirazione.
