Chu (surname)

Chu (), often denoted Zhu (according to Zhū in Pinyin) in today’s Mainland China, is one of the most common surnames in China, with a population of over ten million. It was the “empire’s surname” during the Ming Dynasty. Chu is now the 13th most common surname in China. Another surname, (Pinyin: Qú) is also spelt as Chu in the present-day Republic of China. A famous person named 璩 is the former journalist Melody Chu.
