È considerato come il padre della sistematica micologica e secondo C.G. Loyd è uno degli autore più importanti in questo campo.

C.H. Persoon nacque nel 1761 a Stellenbosch in Sudafrica da genitori di origine olandese e tedesca e morì nel 1836, in povertà, a Parigi.

Poco si conosce di lui durante gli anni in cui visse in Sudafrica.

Christiaan Hendrik Persoon
Christiaan Hendrik Persoon (Stellenbosch, 1 februari 1762 – Parijs, 16 november 1836) was een  Zuid-Afrikaans mycoloog en botanicus. Persoon wordt wel beschouwd as de "vader van de systematische mycologie" en is volgens een publicatie van C.G. Loyd uit 1924 het grootste genie op dit gebied.
