After Hong Kong and Macau were reunited with mainland China under the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China (PRC), the only outstanding goal for advocates of Chinese reunification is the reunification of the mainland and Taiwan (and the islands of the Pescadores, Kinmen, Matsu), which has been administered by the Republic of China (ROC) since 1945.
