China proper

China proper refers to the historical lands of China where the Han Chinese are the majority ethnic group, in contrast with other regions that form parts of the former Chinese empires and the current People's Republic of China. Territories often considered to be outside China proper include Xinjiang (East Turkestan), Tibet, Dongbei (Manchuria), and Inner Mongolia.
