Chile ( or ), officially the Republic of Chile ( ), is a country in South America occupying a long, narrow strip of land between the Andes mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage in the far south. Along with Ecuador, it is one of two countries in South America that do not border Brazil. Chilean territory includes the Pacific islands of Juan Fernández, Salas y Gómez, Desventuradas and Easter Island. Chile also claims about of Antarctica, although all claims are suspended under the Antarctic Treaty.

Chile (spanisch ; amtlich República de Chile, deutsch: Republik Chile) ist ein Staat im Südwesten Südamerikas, der sich annähernd in Nord-Süd-Richtung zwischen den Breitengraden 17° 3' S und 56° 30' S erstreckt. Das Land grenzt im Westen und Süden an den Pazifischen Ozean, im Norden an Peru (auf einer Länge von 160 Kilometer), im Nordosten an Bolivien (861 Kilometer) und im Osten an Argentinien (5.308 Kilometer) sowie an den Atlantischen Ozean, die Gesamtlänge der Landesgrenzen beträgt 6.329 Kilometer. Daneben zählen zum Staatsgebiet die im Pazifik gelegene Osterinsel (Rapa Nui), die Insel Salas y Gómez, die Juan-Fernández-Inseln (einschließlich der Robinson-Crusoe-Insel), die Desventuradas-Inseln sowie im Süden die Ildefonso-Inseln und die Diego-Ramirez-Inseln. Ferner beansprucht Chile einen Teil der Antarktis. Chile belegt laut UN-Bericht den ersten Platz des Human Development Index innerhalb Lateinamerikas.

La République du Chili ( en espagnol) est un pays d’Amérique du Sud partageant ses frontières avec le Pérou au nord, la Bolivie au nord est et l’Argentine à l’est. La capitale de ce pays à la forme allongée porte le nom de Santiago du Chili.
