Chicago metropolitan area

The Chicago metropolitan area is the metropolitan area associated with the city of Chicago in the United States. It is the area that is closely linked to the city through social, economic, and cultural ties. There are several definitions of the area, the two most common being the area under the jursidiction of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (a metropolitan planning organization), and the area defined by the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) as the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, IL-IN-WI Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Le Chicago metropolitan area communément appelé Chicagoland est la région métropolitaine américaine combinant la ville de Chicago et ses banlieues proches et lointaines, constituant la troisième plus grande aire urbaine aux États-Unis et la quatrième en Amérique du nord. C'est le domaine qui est étroitement lié à la ville grâce à des liens sociaux, économiques et culturels. Il existe plusieurs définitions pour définir le caractére de la région, les plus courantes sont la zone de juridiction de l' Agence métropolitaine de Chicago pour la planification ( une organisation de planification métropolitaine ) et la zone définie par le Bureau fédéral de gestion et de budget (OMB) comme le Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, IL-IN-WI pour les statistiques de l'agglomération (MSA).

Die Metropolregion Chicago zählt mit rund 9,4 Millionen Einwohnern (2005) zu den größten Metropolregionen der Welt, und erstreckt sich über mehrere Countys sowie über drei Bundesstaaten (Illinois, Indiana und Wisconsin). Die Definition, was alles zur Metropolregion dazugezählt wird, ist allgemein umstritten. Das was als Metropolregion Chicago, beziehungsweise Chicagoland, gezählt wird, ist die Agglomeration Chicago plus weitere Städte und Gemeinden, die zwar nicht an den suburbanen Rand der Stadt grenzen, aber wirtschaftlich (durch Pendlerströme) dennoch eng mit der Stadt verbunden sind.

Chicagoland è il nome usato comunemente dell'area metropolitana di Chicago, negli Stati Uniti d'America. Chicagoland è composta dalla contea di Cook (che comprende Chicago) da altre nove contee dell'Illinois, da cinque che si trovano nell'Indiana e da una nel Wisconsin. Il termine "Chicagoland" è stato coniato dal Chicago Tribune nei primi anni del XX secolo.
