The county town, and the location of the county council, is the city of Chester, although Cheshire's largest town in terms of size and population is Warrington. Other major towns include Congleton, Crewe, Ellesmere Port, Runcorn, Macclesfield, Northwich, and Wilmslow. The county is bordered by Merseyside and Greater Manchester to the north, Derbyshire to the east, Staffordshire and Shropshire to the south, Flintshire and Wrexham in Wales to the west.

Le Cheshire (auparavant nommé le Comté de Chester ; en anglais : County of Chester) est un comté en grande partie rural dans le nord-est de l’Angleterre. Son chef-lieu administratif est la ville de Chester, bien que Warrington soit la ville la plus peuplée du comté. Cheshire avoisine le Merseyside et Grand Manchester dans le nord, Derbyshire dans l’est et Shropshire et Staffordshire dans le sud. A l’ouest du comté se trouvent deux districts gallois, Flintshire et Wrexham.

Cheshire grenzt an die Grafschaften Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Derbyshire, Staffordshire und Shropshire und an die walisische frühere Grafschaft Clwyd.Einige nördliche Teile der Grafschaft sind Vororte von Manchester oder Liverpool; viele der dort Tätigen pendeln aus anderen Teilen der Grafschaft.Die Garten- und Parkanlagen der Region sind in das European Garden Heritage Network eingebunden.
