Cherokee

The Cherokee ( ah-ni-yv-wi-ya {Unicode: ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯ} in the Cherokee language) are a people from North America, who at the time of European contact in the 1600s, inhabited what is now the Eastern and Southeastern United States. Most were forcibly moved westward to the Ozark Plateau. They were one of the tribes referred to as the Five Civilized Tribes. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, they are the most numerous of the 563 federally recognized Native American tribes in the United States.

Les Tchérokîs, Chérokîs ou Cherokees (ah-ni-yv-wi-ya {Unicode: ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯ} dans la langue cherokee) d’après l’orthographe anglaise sont un peuple d’Amérique du Nord qui habitaient dans l’est et le sud-est des États-Unis avant d’être forcé à se déplacer sur le plateau d’Ozark. Ils faisaient partie de l’organisation dite des Cinq tribus civilisées. Les ethnologues estiment qu’il existe aujourd’hui entre 5 et 7 millions de personnes descendant des Cherokees.

Die Cherokee (Eigenbezeichnung Tsalagi, ursprünglich auch Aniyunwiya und Anikituhwagi, seltener Tscherokesen genannt) sind heute das noch größte existierende Indianervolk Nordamerikas. Ihr Siedlungsgebiet umfasste ursprünglich das Gebiet vom Ohio River bis hinein in die heutigen US-Bundesstaaten Georgia und Alabama. Mit den Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muskogee und Seminolen wurden sie 1820 zu den fünf zivilisierten Nationen gezählt.

Czirokezi to plemię Indian Ameryki Północnej, które w czasie pierwszych kontaktów z Europejczykami (XVII wiek) zamieszkiwało wschodnie i południowo-wschodnie tereny dzisiejszych Stanów Zjednoczonych. Później większość jego członków zostało przymusowo przesiedlona na tereny płaskowyżu Ozark. Byli jednym z plemion wliczanych w skład grupy Pięciu Cywilizowanych Plemion. Według spisu powszechnego z 2000 roku są najliczniejszym plemieniem Indiańskim w Stanach Zjednoczonych.

I Cherokee, o (ah-ni-yv-wi-ya in lingua cherokee), sono un popolo nativo americano del Nord America che al tempo del primo contatto con gli europei nel XVI secolo abitava nelle terre orientali e sud-orientali degli attuali Stati Uniti finché non sono stati costretti a spostarsi forzatamente nella pianura di Ozark negli anni '30 del 1800, nonostante le proteste del generale Wool, poi dimessosi, e di intellettuali come Ralph Waldo Emerson che scrisse personalmente una lettera al presidente Van Buren. I Cherokee erano una delle cosiddette Cinque tribù civilizzate.
