Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte is the largest city in the state of
North Carolina and the
20th largest city in the
United States. It has a 2006 estimated population of approximately 664,342 as of
January 1,
2007. It is the
county seat of
Mecklenburg County, and is located in the south-central part of the state in the
Piedmont region, near the
South Carolina border. The city's economy has and is continuing to mature starting in the 1990s and continuing through the 2000s to become dominated by financial services, as well as retail commerce. According to 2006 estimates, Charlotte is the 5th fastest growing among large U.S. cities as well as the fastest growing city on the East Coast.

Caroline du Nord et la vingtième plus grande ville des
États-Unis. Surnommé the Queen City, Charlotte a été appelée en l'honneur de la reine Charlotte, épouse du roi
George III du Royaume-Uni. Charlotte est également surnommée « nid de frelons » (en anglais Hornet's Nest) en raison de la résistance féroce des citoyens de Charlotte face aux troupes britanniques pendant la guerre d'indépendance. C'est le centre administratif du comté de Mecklenburg. La ville connaît l’une des croissances les plus rapides des
États-Unis et elle est également le deuxième plus grand centre bancaire du pays. Un résident de Charlotte est un Charlottean.

Mecklenburg County, dessen Verwaltungssitz sie auch ist. Nach Angaben des US Census beträgt die geschätzte Einwohnerzahl der Stadt im Jahre 2005 etwa 611.000, die der
Metropolregion Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord etwa 2.420.000. Auch „Queen City“ genannt ist Charlotte als Hauptsitz der größten US-Bank, der
Bank of America, der zweitwichtigste Bank- und Finanzplatz der USA und entwickelte sich aufgrund der geografischen Lage an der zentral-südlichen Ostküste in den letzten Jahren zu einem wichtigen Zielflughafen im Luftverkehr von und nach Europa.
