. He was elected to the
Mississippi State Senate
and served in

, he succeeded Governor
Abram L. Scott
, who had died in office and remained so until the election of
Hiram Runnels
in November of that year. He was later elected in his own right and served a complete 2 year term as Governor starting in January of
1836
