Cognates in other languages include the Bengali chā, the Marathi chahā and the Tamil thaeneer.In a typical South Asian household, chai is prepared by boiling loose leaf tea in a pot with milk and water. Depending on personal preference, various spices and/or sweetner may also be added at this stage. What many English speakers tend to think of as chai is, therefore, more strictly known as masala chai, (Hindi (मसाला चाय [masālā chāy], "spiced tea"). Indian markets all over the world sell various brands of "chai masala," (Hindi चाय मसाला [masālā chāy], "tea spice" ), though many households blend their own.

Le chai (prononcer tchaï) (Hindi: चाय [cay]) est généralement le mot employé pour désigner le thé. Celui-ci est le plus souvent du thé noir de type Ceylan ou Assam mais peut être aussi composé d'autres type de thé (vert comme du Gunpowder ou noir). Le plus souvent, en Inde, on y ajoute du lait, des épices (cannelle, gingembre, cardamome, poivre noir, clous de girofle) et du sucre. Le nombre et la variété des épices varient selon les régions et parfois même selon les familles. En général, c'est par la décoction que les saveurs des épices et du thé sont transmises au mélange eau-lait.

Das Luftfahrtinstitut Charkiw ist eine Universität in Charkiw/Ukraine.Das Institut wurde 1930 gegründet und bestand aus zwei Fakultäten, dem Flugzeugbau und dem Triebwerksbau. Zunächst waren nur 12 Lehrkräfte beschäftigt, die 69 Studenten unterrichteten. Unter Iossif Neman entstand 1932 eine sehr fortschrittliche Flugzeugkonstruktion mit Einziehfahrwerk, die ChAI-1. 1935 gelang es Ljulka, das erste Strahltriebwerk der UdSSR zu bauen. 1940 zählte die Universität bereits 1000 Studenten.

Czaj (chai) (hindi: चाय  ros. чай ) w wielu południowoazjatyckich językach jest terminem oznaczającym herbatę. Słowo to pochodzi od  chińskiego chá - herbata. Występuje również we wschodnio-afrykańskim języku swahili, gdzie dotarło razem z hinduskimi kupcami. Na zachodzie często używa się terminu herbata chai, co jest błedem zważywszy, iż oba słowa oznaczają to samo, choć pochodzą z dwóch różnych dialektów języka chińskiego.

Chai is het Indiase woord voor thee. In het Nederlands wordt het meestal gebruikt om een pittige Indiase kruidenthee (masala chai in het Indiaas) aan te duiden.Er is geen vast Chaimengsel, er zijn wel een aantal vaste ingrediënten: sterke zwarte thee (bv. Darjeeling)zoetmiddelmelk of (koffie)roomkruiden, de meest gebruikelijke zijn kaneel, kardemom, kruidnagel, gember, peper, maar naar inspiratie kunnen ook andere kruiden toegevoegd worden.
