Caspian Sea

The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed body of water on Earth by area, variously classed as the world's largest lake or a full-fledged sea. It has a surface area of 371,000 square kilometers (143,244 sq mi) and a volume of 78,200  cubic kilometers (18,761 cu mi).<ref name=LakeNet">Lake Profile: Caspian Sea. LakeNet. It is an endorheic body of water, and lies between the southern areas of the Russian Federation and northern Iran. It has a maximum depth of about 1025 meters (3,363 ft). It is called a sea because when the Romans first arrived there, they tasted the water and found it to be salty. It has a salinity of approximately 1.2%, about a third the salinity of most seawater.

La mer Caspienne est une mer fermée d'Asie. Elle est bordée par la Russie (avec le Daguestan, la Kalmoukie et l'oblast d'Astrakhan), l'Azerbaïdjan, le Turkménistan, l'Iran, et le Kazakhstan, avec les steppes de l'Asie centrale au nord et à l'est. Dans l'Antiquité, elle était appelée l’océan Hyrcanien ; elle porta aussi le nom de mer Khvalissian (lié aux Khvali, les habitants du Khwarezm) ou de Bahr el-Qazvin selon des sources arabes. Le mot caspienne vient de Qazvin, une ville d'Iran. En Iran, elle s'appelle mer Khazar (Darya-e Khazar) et parfois mer Mazandaran (Darya-e Mazandaran, du nom d'une région qui la borde).

Das Kaspische Meer (auch Kaspisee, persisch دريا خزر, azeri Xäzär dänizi, russisch Каспийское море) ist der größte See der Erde. Er liegt in West-Asien und im äußersten Ost-Europa ohne natürliche Verbindung zu den Ozeanen innerhalb der großen Aral-Kaspi-Senke. Im Norden grenzt er an Russland und Kasachstan, im Süden an den Iran, im Westen an Aserbaidschan und im Osten an Turkmenistan.

Morze Kaspijskie (per. دریای خزر, ros. Каспийское море, azerb. Xəzər dənizi) – bezodpływowe słone jezioro reliktowe w Azji. Jest największym jeziorem świata z powierzchnią wynoszącą ok. 370 tys. km2 (zmieniającą się wskutek opadania poziomu wody, w 1930 roku wynosiła ona aż 442 tys. km²). Maksymalna głębokość to 1025 m.  Zasolenie od 10-12‰ do bardzo dużego, sięgającego nawet 300‰ w zamkniętych zatokach. W Starożytności nosiło różne nazwy: Ocean Hyrkański, Morze Azarskie i Morze Kwalijskie.

Il Mar Caspio è la più grande massa d'acqua chiusa della Terra, ed è alternativamente classificato come il più grande lago del Mondo o come un mare vero e proprio.È un bacino endoreico situato a 28 metri sotto il livello del mare (Depressione Caspica), fra le zone meridionali della Federazione Russa e il nord dell'Iran. Ha una superficie di 371.000 km², un volume di 78.200 km³ e una profondità massima di 1.025 metri.Le principali città che si affacciano sul bacino sono Baku, capitale azera, e Mahackala. Due sono i fiumi maggiori che sfociano nel Mar Caspio: il Volga e l'Ural. Un tempo, quando il bacino era allo stesso livello degli altri mari, faceva parte di una massa d'acqua molto più vasta, che si estendeva dal Mar Nero sino al lago d'Aral.
