Cartridge (firearms)

A cartridge or round packages the bullet, gunpowder and primer into a single metallic case precisely made to fit the firing chamber of a firearm. The primer is a small charge of impact-sensitive chemical that may be located at the center of the case head (centerfire ammunition) or at its rim (rimfire ammunition). Electrically-fired cartridges have also been made. A cartridge without a bullet is called a blank.

Eine Patrone (frz. für Schablone) fasst die zum Abfeuern eines Projektils aus einer Feuerwaffe notwendigen Komponenten in einer Einheit zusammen.Patronen zählen zur Munition und werden heute für Kaliber von .170 (4,3 mm) bis zu 125 mm bei Kampfpanzern (T-80) verwendet. Besondere Bauformen, z. B. Schrotpatronen enthalten mehrere Geschosse (Schrote), deren Größe und Zahl je nach Verwendungszweck variiert. Spezielle Patronen können anstelle des Geschosses oder zusätzlich zum Geschoss auch Treib-, Leucht- oder Knallsätze oder Reizstoffladungen enthalten.

Amunicja zespolona (amunicja scalona) - rodzaj amunicji do broni palnej, w której pocisk, ładunek miotający (prochowy) i spłonka połączone są w całość za pomocą łuski. W broni strzeleckiej po raz pierwszy amunicję scaloną wprowadzono w pruskim karabinie Dreyse M1849 w 1841 (miała ona papierową łuskę). Wprowadzenie nabojów scalonych zrewolucjonizowało i znacznie przyspieszyło proces ładowania broni. Od końca XIX wieku w broni strzeleckiej stosuje się jedynie naboje scalone. Prowadzone są również eksperymenty z  amunicją bezłuskową.

Een eenheidspatroon (kortweg patroon) van een vuurwapen omvat alles wat nodig is om een schot te lossen: de kogel, de kruitlading, het slaghoedje en de omringende huls. De huls geeft aan de patroon zijn typische vorm, en is meestal gemaakt van messing, soms van staal, aluminium of kunststof; messing heeft de voorkeur omdat het elastischer is dan staal, maar in oorlogstijd worden hulzen van militaire munitie soms van staal gemaakt omdat messing vele andere toepassingen heeft en schaarser is.
