Carnaval

It occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during February or March. It typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations.

"Carnival" is a 1995 song written and produced by singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant and was the debut single from her debut album Tigerlily.The single was released to U.S. airwaves in the summer of 1995 and went straight to the number ten spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The single received a radio edit cutting the song down from the six-minute LP version.In the song, Merchant likened the many colourful sights and sounds of day-to-day life in New York City to a carnival.

Als Karneval, Fastennacht oder Fasching (auch fünfte Jahreszeit) bezeichnet man verschiedene Bräuche, um die Zeit vor dem Aschermittwoch in Ausgelassenheit, Fröhlichkeit und überschäumender Lebensfreude zu feiern. Diese Bräuche haben sich in den zahlreichen Karnevals-, Fastnachts- und Faschingshochburgen mit spezifischen Eigenarten entwickelt. Ihren Ursprung haben die Bräuche in einer christianisierten Form der heidnischen Winteraustreibung, wobei ein Bezug zur christlichen Fastenzeit entstand. Weitere wichtige Einflüsse sind die Narretei, Lokalpatriotismus und die Verhöhnung der französischen Besatzung am Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts.

Karnawał – inaczej zapusty, mięsopust – okres zimowych balów, maskarad, pochodów i zabaw. Rozpoczyna się najczęściej w dniu Trzech Króli a kończy w Środę Popielcową. Nazwa pochodzi od włoskiego carnevale, a słowo to zaczerpnięte z łaciny oznaczało pożegnanie mięsa (carne mięso + valere obowiązywać, być ważnym, królować), przed rozpoczynającym się Wielkim Postem. Inna etymologia tej nazwy, każe szukać jej źródeł w (łac. carrus navalis wóz w kształcie okrętu), nazwie wozu który uczestniczył w procesji świątecznej ku czci bogini Izydy a później Dionizosa w starożytnym Rzymie. Karnawał wywodzi się z kultów płodności i z kultów agrarnych. Od głębokiej przeszłości utrzymywało się przekonanie, że im wyższe będą skoki, tym wyżej będzie rodziło zboże. Między innymi dlatego Karnawał jest tak ściśle związany z tańcami. W wielu krajach europejskich, zwłaszcza na wsiach praktykowano także tańce dookoła ogniska, najczęściej w formie koła.

Il carnevale è una festa che si celebra nei paesi di tradizione cristiana (ed in modo particolare in quelli di tradizione cattolica) nel periodo di tempo immediatamente precedente alla Quaresima; i principali eventi si concentrano comunque tra febbraio e marzo. I festeggiamenti si svolgono spesso in pubbliche parate in cui dominano elementi giocosi e fantasiosi; in particolare l'elemento più distintivo del carnevale è la tradizione del mascheramento.Benché facente parte della tradizione cristiana, i caratteri della celebrazione carnevalesca hanno origini in festività ben più antiche che, ad esempio nelle dionisiache greche e nei saturnali romani, erano espressione del bisogno di un temporaneo scioglimento degli obblighi sociali e delle gerarchie per lasciar posto al rovesciamento dell'ordine, allo scherzo ed anche alla dissolutezza.
