Carlos Humberto Romero
General Carlos Humberto Romero Mena (born February 29, 1924 in Chalatenango) is a former President of El Salvador, having served from 1977 until 1979. He was deposed with a reformist coup d'état by dissident, politically conservative and moderate military officers and civilians. President-General Romero's rule was military dictatorship in the style of his predecessors. In the late 1970s, political unrest increased, because of El Salvador's severe socio-economic inequalities unaddressed by his government, so, leftist guerrillas began attacking military targets, and civil opponents of the régime asked the President Romero's government for reform.

Умберто Ромеро, Карлос
Родился 29 февраля 1924 года в провинции Чалатенанго. Служил в армии, дошел до звания генерала. В кабинете Армандо Молины (1972—1977) работал министром обороны. 1 июля 1977 года Умберто Ромеро сверг Армандо Молину. Последствием его правления стала гражданская война, которая длилась 12 лет. В 1979 году он был свергнут и выехал в Гватемалу.
