Carl Radle

Carl Radle (born Carl Dean Radle, June 18 1942 Tulsa, Oklahoma — died May 30 1980) was a bassist who toured and recorded with several of the most influential artists of the late 1960s and 1970s. Radle's first success, though, was as a member of Gary Lewis & the Playboys in 1965. Ultimately, he was best known for his long association with Eric Clapton, starting in 1969 with Delaney and Bonnie and Friends and 1970 with Derek and the Dominos, for which he and Jim Gordon were the rhythm section. He worked on all of Clapton's solo projects from 1970 until 1979 and was a member of Clapton's touring band Eric Clapton & His Band from 1974 through 1979. Radle was instrumental in facilitating Clapton's return to recording and touring in 1974. During Clapton's 3-year hiatus, Radle furnished him with a supply of tapes of Okie musicians with whom he'd been working. Dick Sims and Jamie Oldaker were musicians who became the core of Clapton's '70s band. Radle served as more than a hired bass player. He also acted as arranger on several songs, most notably "Motherless Children". Radle earned an associate producer's credit on No Reason to Cry.

Carl Dean Radle (f. 18. juni 1942 i Tulsa, Oklahoma, d. 30. maj , 1980) var en amerikansk musiker, mest kendt for at spille el-bas i Derek and the Dominoes og på en række udgivelser med Eric Clapton. Radle fungerede som session-musiker i 1960'erne og 1970'erne. I sin barndom blev Radle undervist i klarinet og klaver. I sin gymnasietid blev fik han interesse for rock'n'roll, begyndte at spille guitar og spillede sammen med andre unge Tulsa musikere, bl.a. Leon Russell og J.J. Cale. Leon Russel flyttede i starten af 1960'erne til Californien, og Radle fulgte snart efter. Radle spillede i klubber og som session-musiker, bl.a. for Skip & Flip. Radle havde imidlertid svært ved at tjene til livets ophold ved at spille, så i 1964 returnerede han til Tulsa, meldte sig til Air National Guard og var det følgende år stationeret i Texas.
