Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim

For the noble families, see Mannerheim (family) Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim [IPA: ka:rl gustɑv e:mil mɑn:erhei̥m] (June 4, 1867 –  January 28, 1951) was the Commander-in-Chief of Finland's Defence Forces, Marshal of Finland, an astute politician and a successful military commander. He was the sixth President of Finland (1944–1946). Mannerheim was born in the Grand Duchy of Finland to a notable Finnish noble family that had migrated during the 17th century to Sweden from the Netherlands. He started his military career in the Imperial Russian army, becoming the leader of Finnish government forces in the civil war of 1918 and during the Second World War.

Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, ur. 4 czerwca 1867, zm. 28 stycznia 1951 w Lozannie w Szwajcarii - baron, fiński dowódca wojskowy (marszałek Finlandii) i polityk; prezydent kraju w latach 1944-1946. Był też pierwszą głową państwa, jako regent, po uzyskaniu niepodległości. Były generał-lejtnant carskiej Armii Rosyjskiej, uczestnik wojny rosyjsko-japońskiej (1904-1905), w czasie I wojny światowej dowódca korpusu kawalerii. Był potomkiem arystokratycznej rodziny (hrabiowie i baronowie) pochodzenia szwedzko-holenderskiego. Zaczął karierę wojskową 1889 w 15 Aleksandryjskim Pułku Dragonów stacjonującym w Kaliszu i w tym mieście, już jako generał, spędził także ostatnie pięć lat przed wybuchem I wojny światowej (w między czasie przebywał w Azji oraz dowodził pułkiem w Mińsku Mazowieckim).

Il maresciallo di Finlandia, barone Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim (Askainen, 4 giugno 1867 - Losanna, Svizzera, 28 gennaio 1951) fu un militare e uomo politico finlandese. Reggente di Finlandia dal 1918 al 1919, Comandante in capo delle Forze di Difesa finlandesi durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, divenne poi Presidente della Repubblica finlandese dal 1944 al 1946.
