Caribbean Sea

The Caribbean Sea (pronounced or ) is a tropical sea in the Western Hemisphere, part of the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of the Gulf of Mexico. A mediterranean sea, it covers most of the Caribbean Plate and is bounded on the south by South America, on the west and south by Mexico and Central America, and on the north and east by the Antilles: the Greater Antilles islands of Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico lie to the north, and a plethora of Lesser Antilles bound the sea on the east. The entire area of the Caribbean Sea, the numerous islands of the West Indies, and adjacent coasts, are collectively known as the Caribbean.

Morze Karaibskie – morze, wchodzące w skład systemu oceanicznego Oceanu Atlantyckiego, położone na północ od Ameryki Południowej. Od pełnych wód Oceanu Atlantyckiego oddzielają go łańcuchy wysp Małych Antyli na wschodzie i Wielkich Antyli na północy. Wyspa Kuba i półwysep Jukatan oddzielają go od Zatoki Meksykańskiej. Z akwenem Zatoki Meksykańskiej połączone jest przez Cieśninę Jukatańską, a z Oceanem Atlantyckim przez Cieśninę Zawietrzną. Z Morza Karaibskiego można dostać się na Ocean Spokojny przez Kanał Panamski.

Il Mar Caraibico, o Mar dei Caraibi, è un mare tropicale nell'emisfero occidentale, parte dell'oceano Atlantico, a sud ovest del Golfo del Messico. Mare di tipo mediterraneo, copre gran parte della placca caraibica. È delimitato a sud dall'America del Sud, a ovest e a sud dall'America Centrale, a nord e a est dalle Antille: Cuba, Hispaniola, Giamaica e Porto Rico delle Grandi Antille a nord, le Piccole Antille ad est. L'intera area del Mar Caraibico, con le numerose isole e le coste adiacenti è conosciuta comunemente come Caraibi.
