Caribbean
The Caribbean (pronounced or ) is a crescent-shaped group of islands more than 2,000 miles (3,200 km) long separating the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, to the west and south, from the Atlantic Ocean, to the east and north. From the peninsula of Florida on the mainland of the United States, the islands stretch 1,200 miles (1,900 km) southeastward, then 500 miles (800 km) south, then west along the north coast of Venezuela on the South American mainland.

Die Karibik ist eine Region im westlichen, tropischen Teil des Atlantischen Ozeans nördlich des Äquators. Sie besteht aus dem Karibischen Meer und den dort gelegenen Inseln und Inselgruppen (Westindische Inseln).

Espace Caraïbe
L'Espace Caraïbe ou Caraïbe est une région du globe correspondant au bassin versant de la mer des Caraïbes. On l'a parfois qualifiée de Méditerranée du Nouveau Monde, elle a été marquée culturellement par les différentes colonisations occidentales et les sociétés esclavagistes qui s'y étaient implantées. Ses habitants sont les Caribéens et non les Caraïbes qui sont une ethnie amérindienne qui y vivait avant d'être exterminée par les colons.

Västindien
Västindien, Karibien eller Antillerna avser vanligen den kedja av öar som ligger öster om det centralamerikanska fastlandet och som utgör en skiljelinje mellan Atlanten och Karibiska havet. Den delas in i Små Antillerna och Stora Antillerna samt Bahamas.

Karaiby
Karaiby (Wyspy Karaibskie) to rejon pomiędzy kontynentami Ameryk. Nazwa pochodzi od Indian nazywanych Karaibami (Carib, Caraïbes), którzy niegdyś zamieszkiwali część Karaibów określaną dziś jako Małe Antyle.
Wiedzę o zwyczajach Karaibów (a tym samym nazwę) spopularyzowały w ówczesnej Europie opisy drukowane po drugiej wyprawie Kolumba.
Karaiby obejmują geograficznie: Antyle, Wyspy Bahama, Kajmany oraz część wysp położonych na Morzu Karaibskim. W skład Karaibów wchodzą wszystkie wyspiarskie państwa i terytoria zależne Ameryki Środkowej: Antigua i Barbuda, Bahamy, Barbados, Dominika, Dominikana, Grenada, Haiti, Jamajka, Kuba, Saint Kitts i Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent i Grenadyny, Trynidad i Tobago, Anguilla, Antyle Holenderskie, Aruba, Brytyjskie Wyspy Dziewicze, Gwadelupa, Kajmany, Martynika, Montserrat, Navassa, Portoryko, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Turks i Caicos, Wyspy Dziewicze Stanów Zjednoczonych. W sumie obejmują one obszar 255 tys. km², z liczbą ludności przekraczającą 40 mln osób.
