Carbon dioxide equivalent
Carbon dioxide equivalent, CO2eq or CO2e, is an internationally accepted measure that expresses the amount of global warming of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in terms of the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) that would have the same global warming potential. Examples of such GHGs are methaneperfluorocarbons and nitrous oxide. As the mainstream media grasps "carbon" and "CO2" jargon, it should be noted that CO2e is a more correct/broad measure of total GHG contribution.

Carbon dioxide equivalent
A metric measure used to compare the emissions from various greenhouse gases based upon their global warming potential (GWP). Carbon dioxide equivalents are commonly expressed as "million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents (MMTCDE)." The carbon dioxide equivalent for a gas is derived by multiplying the tons of the gas by the associated GWP. MMTCDE = (million metric tons of a gas) * (GWP of the gas) See greenhouse gas, global warming potential, carbon equivalent.
