Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI®) is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. The latest release of CMMI — CMMI for Development (CMMI-DEV), Version 1.2 — was released in August 2006. CMMI for Development addresses product and service development processes.

Das (kurz CMMI) ist ein Prozessmodell zur Beurteilung und Verbesserung der Qualität („Reife“) von Produkt-Entwicklungsprozessen in Organisationen. Dabei werden die Stärken und Schwächen einer Produktentwicklung objektiv analysiert. So können Verbesserungsmaßnahmen bestimmt und in eine sinnvolle Reihenfolge gebracht werden. Primär ist CMMI ein Mittel, die Produktentwicklung zu verbessern. Sekundär ist eine offizielle Überprüfung eines Reifegrades (siehe ) eine in der Industrie de-facto anerkannte Auszeichnung.

Capability Maturity Model (Reifegradmodell)® (kurz CMM®) ist ein Prozessmodell zur Beurteilung der Qualität ("Reife") des Softwareprozesses (Softwareentwicklung, Wartung, Konfiguration etc.) von Organisationen sowie zur Bestimmung der Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung desselben. CMM wurde Ende 2003 durch Capability Maturity Model Integration® (kurz CMMI®) ersetzt, um dem Wildwuchs diverser CM-Modelle (jede Entwicklungs-Disziplin entwickelte ein eigenes Modell) entgegenzuwirken und ein neues, modulares und vor allem vereinheitlichtes Modell zu erstellen.

能力成熟度モデル統合 (のうりょくせいじゅくどもでるとうごう、CMMI; Capability Maturity Model Integration) は、組織がプロセスをより適切に管理できるようになることを目的として遵守するべき指針を体系化したものである 。 CMMIは、もともとは能力成熟度モデル (CMM; Capability Maturity Model) として開発された。CMMIは、組織に5段階のプロセス成熟度レベルに照らして等級をつけて評価するために使うことができる。 CMMIで規定されている各レベルは、評価の対象となる領域のプロセスにおける標準化の程度に応じて、等級づけられている。 評価の対象となる領域はさまざまであり次のようなものがある。ソフトウェア開発システム開発プロジェクト管理リスク管理システム調達、情報技術 (IT) サービスパーソナルマネジメントCMMIでは5つの成熟度レベルを厳密に定義している。レベル1は、非常に未熟で混沌とした開発プロセスである。レベル5は、非常に成熟した高品質を実現する開発プロセスである。 1998年の時点では、ソフトウェア開発を行う組織の75%がレベル1であると推定されている (参考) 。

O CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integrated) é um modelo de referência que contém práticas (Genéricas ou Específicas) necessárias à maturidade em disciplinas específicas (Systems Engineering (SE), Software Engineering (SE), Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD), Supplier Sourcing (SS)). Capability Maturity Model (CMM), também conhecido como Software CMM (SW-CMM) pode ser definido como sendo uma soma de "melhores práticas" para diagnóstico e avaliação de maturidade do desenvolvimento de softwares em uma organização. "CMM" não deve ser entendido como sendo um metodologia, pois o "CMM" não diz o que exatamente fazer, mas sim o que deve ser feito (melhores práticas).
