Cantonese (linguistics)

Cantonese or Yue (粵語) is a major Chinese dialect group or language, a member of the Sino-Tibetan family of languages. The exact number of Cantonese speakers is unknown due to a lack of statistics and census data. The areas with the highest concentration of speakers are in Guangdong and some parts of Guangxi in southern mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Cantonese is the de facto official language of Hong Kong. Other major groups include Chinese minorities in Southeast Asia. The name is derived from Canton, an old French romanized Western name for Guangdong. The current most popular form of romanization for learning purposes is Yale Romanization.

Die kantonesische Sprache oder Yue , ist eine chinesische Sprache, die vor allem im Süden Chinas, in der autonomen Provinz Guangxi, Wuzhou und in Großteilen der Provinz Guangdong (ehemals Kanton, daher kantonesisch) gesprochen wird. Eine Ausnahme bildet die Sonderwirtschaftszone Shenzhen. Hier wird wegen des sehr hohen Anteils an Zuwanderern aus den südöstlichen Teilen Chinas vorwiegend Mandarin gesprochen. In den beiden Sonderverwaltungszonen Hong Kong und Macao wird ebenfalls kantonesisch gesprochen.

Język kantoński (chiń. tradycyjny: 粵語; uproszczony: 粤语, kantoński (jyutping): Jyut6jyu5; pinyin: Yueyu) to jeden z języków chińskich używany na południu Chin, w Hongkongu i Makau, a także przez potomków chińskich emigrantów w Azji Południowo-Wschodniej i innych rejonach świata. Jego nazwa wywodzi się od Kantonu (Guangzhou), stolicy prowincji Guangdong. Liczbę użytkowników kantońskiego szacuje się ogółem na 66 mln (dane na rok 1996; z uwzględnieniem wszystkich pokrewnych dialektów z grupy Yue).

Il cantonese (粵語 / 粤语, dialetto Yuet) è uno dei principali gruppi di dialetti o lingue della lingua o famiglia di lingue cinese. Viene principalmente parlata nella parte sud-orientale della Cina continentale, Hong Kong, Macao, dalle minoranze cinesi nel Sud-Est asiatico e da molti cinesi di origine cantonese sparsi nel mondo. Il cantonese standard è la lingua ufficiale di Hong Kong e Macao.
