Canasta

Canasta is a matching card game in which the object is to create melds of cards of the same rank and then go out by playing or discarding all the cards in your hand. The distinctive feature of Canasta, as opposed to other Rummy games, is that making a seven-card meld, called a canasta, gives the player a huge bonus, and the number of canastas made usually decides the game. Another distinctive feature is that in Canasta, when a player picks up cards from the discard pile, the player picks up the entire pile, as opposed to only the top card in most other Rummy games (but see also 500 Rum).

La Canasta est un jeu qui se joue avec deux jeux de 54 cartes ( 54 cartes = 52 cartes + 2 jokers). La Canasta se pratique généralement à quatre joueurs, rangés en deux équipes de deux, mais elle peut également se jouer à 2, 3, 5 ou 6 joueurs.

Canasta (von span. canasta: Korb) ist ein Kartenspiel für vier Personen in zwei Partnerschaften; es existieren auch Varianten für zwei, drei, fünf oder sechs Personen.Als Erfinder des Spieles nennt Philipp E. Orbanes in The Canasta Story den Rechtsanwalt Segundo Santos, der gemeinsam mit seinem  Bridge-Partner im Jockey Club in Montevideo, dem Architekten Alberto Serrato, im Jahre 1939 das Canasta-Spiel entwickelte.Canasta entstand jedenfalls spätestens zu Anfang der 1940er Jahren in Südamerika und verbreitete sich bald über Uruguay und Argentinien. Josefina Artayeta de Viel brachte das Spiel nach New York, über die USA gelangte das Spiel nach Großbritannien und auf den europäischen Kontinent. In den 1950er Jahren war Canasta das neben Bridge am häufigsten gespielte Kartenspiel.

La canasta è un gioco di carte che si gioca in 2 o in 4 (in questo caso a coppie) con 162 carte francesi (3 mazzi + 2 jolly per mazzo)Sembra che il gioco sia originario dell’Uruguay e che si sia diffuso in Occidente dopo il 1940; in ogni caso è di origine spagnola visto che in spagnolo canasta significa "cesto" o "paniere".Inoltre, una delle peculiarità della canasta è che lo svolgimento del gioco avviene in silenzio: non sono concesse comunicazioni tra compagni ad eccezione che nel momento della chiusura.
