Cambrai

Cambrai (Dutch: Kamerijk; old spelling Cambray) is a French town and commune, in the Nord département, of which it is a sous-préfecture.Cambrai is the seat of an archdiocese whose jurisdiction was immense during the Middle Ages. The territory of the Bishopric of Cambrai, roughly coinciding with the shire of Brabant, included the central part of the Low Countries. The bishopric had some limited secular power.The Battle of Cambrai (20 November - 3 December 1917), a campaign of World War I took place there. It was noted for the first successful use of tanks. A second Battle of Cambrai took place between 8 October - 10 October 1918 as part of the Hundred Days Offensive.

Cambrai (niederländisch Kamerijk, deutsch veraltet Kamerich) ist eine französische Stadt im Département Nord und bildet davon eine Unterpräfektur. Die an der oberen Schelde (frz. Escaut) gelegene Stadt ist ein Zentrum der Textilindustrie, das Umland der Stadt wird landwirtschaftlich genutzt. Cambrai war für die Herstellung des Stoffes Kambrik, einem feinen Baumwollgewebe, das dort erstmalig produziert wurde, bekannt. Seit dem 16. September 1989 ist Cambrai Partnerstadt des nordrhein-westfälischen Kamp-Lintfort.

Cambrai lub Cambray to miejscowość i gmina we Francji, w regionie Nord-Pas-de-Calais, w departamencie Nord.Według danych na rok 1990 gminę zamieszkiwały 33 092 osoby, a gęstość zaludnienia wynosiła 1826 osób/km² (wśród 1549 gmin regionu  Nord-Pas-de-Calais Cambrai plasuje się na 16. miejscu pod względem liczby ludności, natomiast pod względem powierzchni na miejscu 79.).

Cambrai (anche Cambray, in olandese Kamerijk) è un comune francese di 33.738 abitanti sottoprefettura del dipartimento del Nord, nella regione del Nord-Passo di Calais. La città è capoluogo della regione del Cambrésis. I suoi abitanti si chiamano Cambrésiens.
