Caithness (, ) is a registration county, lieutenancy area and historic local government area of Scotland. The name was used also for the earldom of Caithness and the Caithness constituency of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (1708 to 1918). Boundaries are not identical in all contexts, but the Caithness area is now entirely within the Highland council area. In 2007 the Highland Council, which is now the local government authority, created the Caithness ward management area, which has boundaries similar to those of the historic local government area.

Caithness (ibland Katanäs på svenska) är ett område på det skotska fastlandets nordostspets, med ytan 1 844 km². Det var ett grevskap fram till 1975, då det blev ett ståthållarskap och distrikt i regionen Highland. 1996 omvandlades distriktet till en committee area (ungefär kommundel) i Highland. Kusterna är oftast höga och branta; den norra delen av landet är en av sumpmarker uppfylld slätt. Huvudnäringen har traditionellt varit fiske, mest sillfiske. Många minnen finns från danskarnas och norrmännens välde. Huvudort är Wick.

Caithness (Schots-Gaelisch: Gallaibh) is een historisch graafschap in het uiterste noordoosten van het vasteland van Schotland. De hoofdplaats is Wick, en de enige andere borough is Thurso.
