Caeculus

, Caeculus was a son of
Vulcan
. He founded
Praeneste
(cur:
Palestrina
). He had a brother, Cacus, and lived by plunder. King Caeculus appears in Book VII of
Virgil
's
Aeneid
as an ally of
Turnus
against
Aeneas
and the
Trojans
. He is said to be "born among the rural herds and found upon the hearth" (Mandelbaum, 1971).
