CITATION

A citation or bibliographic citation is a reference to a book, article, web page, or other published item with sufficient detail to identify the item uniquely. Unpublished writings or speech, such as working papers and personal communications, are also sometimes cited. Citations are provided in scholarly works, bibliographies, and indexes. The word citation may also mean the act of citing a work, that is, providing a reference to the work in the form of a bibliographic citation.

Citation (* 11. April 1945; † 8. August 1970) war ein US-amerikanisches Rennpferd. Er wurde auf der Calumet Farm in Lexington, Kentucky geboren und aufgezogen als Sohn von Bull Lea und der Mutter Hydroplane II. Trainiert wurde er von Horace A. "Jimmy" Jones und gewann sein erstes Rennen als Zweijähriger in Havre de Grace in Maryland. In diesem Jahr hatte er neun Rennen, von denen er acht gewann und 155.680 $ verdiente. Citation war das erste Rennpferd, das über eine Million $ gewinnen sollte.

Eine Zitation ist ein expliziter Verweis auf eine Publikation oder andere Informationsquelle. Dieser Verweis besteht in der Regel aus einer Literaturangabe. Im Gegensatz zum Zitat, bei dem der Schwerpunkt auf einem zitierten Wortlaut oder Sachverhalt besteht, und der „Zitierung“, die den Vorgang oder Art und Weise des Zitierens bezeichnet, steht bei der Zitation primär das Vorhandensein eines Verweises im Mittelpunkt. Im engeren Wortsinn erhält beim Verweisen die Publikation, auf die verwiesen wird, eine Zitation, und die verweisende Publikation einen Verweis.

Cytat (łac. citatio, niem. Zitat) – dosłowne przytoczenie czyichś słów. Cytat w literaturze jest formą ekspresji artystycznej. Może mieć charakter jawny, w postaci wyraźnie wyróżnionego tekstu, lub niejawny, stanowiąc rodzaj aluzji. W publikacjach naukowych cytat to dosłowne przytoczenie fragmentu innej publikacji lub sparafrazowane powołanie się na dane pochodzące z innej publikacji. Cytować można nie tylko dane zawarte w postaci tekstu, ale także zawarte w formie wykresu, schematu, rysunku czy tabeli. W publikacjach naukowych i technicznych cytaty powinny być zawsze jawne i z dokładnym wskazaniem źródła w formie przypisu. Cytaty niejawne w publikacjach naukowych i technicznych są uważane za plagiat.

Segundo a norma NBR 10520:2002, elaborada pelo Comitê Técnico 014 (Informação e Documentação) da Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas, citação numa produção textual é a "Menção de uma informação extraída de outra fonte", tais como (livros, periódicos, vídeos, sites e etc).As citações na produção textual são feitas para apoiar uma hipótese, sustentar uma idéia ou ilustrar um raciocínio. Sua função é oferecer ao leitor o respaldo necessário para que ele possa comprovar a veracidade das informações fornecidas e possibilitar o seu aprofundamento.Ressalva-se que a referência bibliográfica, isto é, os dados que identificam uma publicação citada, tais como autor, título, local, editora ou data, deve aparecer no final do trabalho sob o título de Referências bibliográficas ou de Bibliografia, pois desta maneira o leitor poderá identificar a obra e, assim, facilitar sua localização em catálogos, índices bibliográficos, bibliotecas, Internet, entre outros locais.
