Celsius
Celsius, formerly known as centigrade, is a scale and unit of measurement for temperature. It is named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius (1701–1744), who developed a similar temperature scale. The degree Celsius (°C) can refer to a specific temperature on the Celsius scale as well as a unit to indicate a temperature interval, a difference between two temperatures or an uncertainty. The unit was known until 1948 as "centigrade" from the Latin centum translated as 100 and gradus translated as "steps".

Degré Celsius
Le degré Celsius (symbole °C ou ℃) est l’unité de l’échelle de température Celsius, qui est une unité dérivée du système international d’unités, introduite en 1948. Son nom est une référence à l’astronome et physicien suédois Anders Celsius, inventeur en 1742 d’une des premières échelles centigrades de température.

Skala Celsjusza
Skala Celsjusza to skala termometryczna (od nazwiska szwedzkiego uczonego Andersa Celsiusa, który zaproponował ją w roku 1742).
Anders Celsius w roku 1742 zbudował swój pierwszy termometr rtęciowy. Aby mierzyć temperaturę musiał przyjąć jakąś skalę. Skala, którą zaproponował Celsius była odwrotna do współczesnej. Naukowiec ten przyjął jako zero temperaturę wrzenia wody (obecnie jest to temperatura jej krzepnięcia), a jako sto stopni wybrał punkt, w którym woda zamarzała (odwrotnie do współcześnie przyjętego punktu wrzenia). Oznacza to, że w pierwotnej skali Celsiusa temperatura pokojowa odpowiadała 80 stopniom (dziś 20). Temperatura ciała człowieka w tej pierwotnej skali wynosiła 63,4 stopnia (współcześnie 36,6). Podczas mroźnego poranka pierwszy termometr Celsiusa mógł wskazywać 110 stopni (obecnie -10).
